Exploring Sicily
For those of you who would like to arrive in Sicily a few days early or stay after the wedding, there is plenty to explore on the island.
Via Palermo
Palermo
Sicily's capital, with markets, street food, and Arab-Norman architecture.
Riserva dello Zingaro
A coastal nature reserve with hiking trails and small, clear-water coves.
Favignana
A small island off Sicily's western tip, reached by ferry, known for turquoise water.
Cefalù
A seaside town with a beach, a historic old centre, and a Norman cathedral.
Valle dei Templi
Ancient Greek temples in Agrigento, among the best preserved anywhere.
Via Catania
Mount Etna
Europe's tallest active volcano. Visit the craters or one of the many wineries.
Noto
A golden-stone Baroque town, lovely for an afternoon stroll and a granita.
Gole dell’Alcantara
A river gorge carved through volcanic rock, with cold water to wade through.
Ortigia
The historic island centre of Siracusa, full of piazzas, seafood, and sea views.
Marzamemi
A small fishing village with a charming piazza and seaside restaurants.
Via Taormina
Corso Umberto
The main road, with plenty of food and shopping.
Isola Bella
An iconic but crowded beach. You can also take a boat tour around it.
Giardini Naxos
A more spacious, sandy beach with nightlife
Letojanni
Another beach, with some lively beach clubs.
Castelmola
The town just above Taormina. We recommend stopping at Bar Turrisi.
FAQs
Travel & Logistics
What's the closest airport?
Catania Fontanarossa (CTA) is the closest airport, about an hour's drive from Taormina. Palermo (PMO) is also an option if you find better fares, but it is roughly a three-hour drive.
How do I get to Taormina from the airport?
You can book a private transfer, take a taxi, catch the Interbus coach from Catania Airport, or rent a car.
Where should I stay?
We are providing accommodations for all guests for two nights, September 3 and September 4, 2027, with checkout on the morning of September 5.
If you'd like to extend your trip before or after the wedding, Taormina and the surrounding coast have many lovely hotels and Airbnbs. See our Sicily travel tab for ideas on where to go.
Do I need a visa?
For a short trip like this one, most of our guests won't need a visa.
- Italian and other EU citizens: No visa or passport is needed. A valid national ID card is enough.
- UK and US citizens: No visa is required for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after your departure date from Italy and should have been issued within the last 10 years.
- Heads-up for non-EU guests: The EU plans to introduce ETIAS, a short online travel authorisation for visa-free visitors, but there is currently no confirmed start date. We recommend checking europa.eu/etias a few weeks before you travel.
Guests of other nationalities should check the requirements for their own passport.
Events & Attire
What should I wear for each event?
Detailed outfit guides for each night are linked under the Order of Events tab, so please look there for inspiration. A few rules apply to every event:
- Footwear must be formal. Please no white sneakers.
- Dresses must be ankle length or longer.
- Please avoid red or black, and absolutely no white.
Our venues include cobblestone streets and stairs, so we suggest formal shoes you can walk in comfortably, such as block heels or wedges.
What's the weather like in early September?
Expect warm, sunny days in the high 20s °C (low 80s °F) and pleasant evenings. Breathable fabrics are a good choice.
RSVP
How do I RSVP?
Please RSVP by clicking the RSVP button on this site. If you have any trouble or questions, contact Sophia at sophiacnicholls@gmail.com or +1 917-929-2361.
Gifts & Currency
Is a gift expected?
Please don't feel any need to bring a gift. Having you there is truly the best one we could ask for. If you'd still like to give something, please see the Registry tab on our website, which links to our Zola page.
What currency is used, and should I tip?
Italy uses the euro. Tipping isn't obligatory, though rounding up or leaving a few euros for good service is appreciated. Some smaller shops and cafés prefer cash, so it helps to carry a little.
Extending Your Trip
What else should we see while in Sicily?
See our Exploring Sicily tab for suggestions!
